A lot of people recommend tests… but I don’t. They are often more trouble than help! The results can be confusing. Sometimes we test and get different numbers each time. And just because a test tells you a number, it doesn’t necessarily mean that’s your number. So what do we do?
We don’t get to choose our Enneagram number, we recognize it.
I believe the best way to recognize your number is to learn the Enneagram and practice non-judgmental self-observation. Learning the Enneagram means going to a workshop, listening to an MP3, reading a book… Hearing about all 9 Types! Non-judgmental self-observation means watching yourself in your daily life. It means taking a step back and observing your actual patterns of thinking, feeling, and doing.
Some people recognize their number right away, and for some people it takes a while.
Give yourself time and space. You’ll get there! Let yourself be on the journey. Keep learning, keep watching yourself.
And when you recognize your number… then the next journey begins!
